Zofia "Sophie" Jasnos

Friends and family mourn the passing of Zofia ("Sophie") Jasnos (Nee: Grabarz) 76 of South Amboy, on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Sophie, "Babcia", as she was affectionately known by all who knew her because of her kindness and acceptance of all people, emigrated from Poland to the United States in 1966. She was employed by FoodTown in South Amboy as a deli clerk for over 30 years where she was known to many customers and friends alike for her always ready smile and happy attitude. She was a proud UFCW member and a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church of South Amboy.

She was also a life-long gardener and "cocktail connoisseur" who was deeply devoted to her family. She loved taking trips to Atlantic City, cruises with her sister and friends, but was happiest sitting on the beach with her toes in the sand and the sun on her face. She was an exceptional cook who loved to create new dishes from scratch. She was also gifted with the ability to "repurpose" otherwise discarded items into beautiful and creative uses, usually in her beloved garden.

Sophie will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is predeceased by her husband Jan Jasnos, her son Robert “Bobby”, and sister Maria Was.

She is survived by her loving daughter Donna Jarvis, and her husband Kevin, adored grandchildren Julia Briganti, and Audrey Briganti, her sister Jenny Sandulow and many caring nieces, nephews and family members whom she loved.

Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family at the Kurzawa Funeral Home 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879 on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 4pm to 7pm, and 9am Friday morning. A 10am funeral mass will be offered at Sacred Heart Church, South Amboy, NJ. Sophie will be laid to rest beside her husband at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin, NJ.
