Phyllis Rose Nowak, 97 of Sayreville entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.
Phyllis Rose Powell was born in 1926 in a small coal mining village, nicknamed Boston Run in Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of 4 daughters Helen, Leona and Winnie.
Phyllis married Arthur Nowak of Sayreville in 1948 that was almost canceled due to a blizzard. But alas they trudged through 27 inches of snow to get hitched. Phyllis became a school teacher, taught for 30 years for the Old Bridge School System and also went to night school to receive her masters degree in education. She loved to travel all over Europe and spending time with family throughout the country. But above all, Phyllis had an immense love of animals and over the years helped foster many kittens.
Survived by her loving family, daughters Penny Nowak, Janet Nowak and her husband Greg Tonkin and granddaughter Danielle Marshall, Dear sister-in-law Regina Haklar, granddogs Melody, Kadie, Domino, Angel, Louie and one grandcat April.
Friends are invited to the Kurzawa Funeral Home, 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879 on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 10am to 12pm. An 11:30am Funeral Service will be offered on Monday, February 26, 2024 at the funeral home, followed by a burial at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery, Parlin, NJ. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Whiskers Rescue in Sayreville in memory of Phyllis.
