Nicolas Kolokithias, of Edison NJ, was 48 when he was called to Heaven on Monday morning January 1st, 2024.
Nick was born May 13th, 1975, in Queens, New York; Son to Nicholas "Nick" Kolokithias and the late Gretchen Shepard. Nick obtained his commercial drivers license and worked as an MTA Bus Operator out of the Michael J. Quill depot in Manhattan. He was a kind, exceptional and creatively eccentric human being. An avid Jets fan, sports and music lover. Nick could spit bars and there are a few hidden vaults filled with his rhymes.
Any attempt to pen the man Nick was, would fall flat. Words can't quantify the determination of a man who fought through multiple injuries and a terminal disease to be the pillar in his family. His love can't be measured as it suggests an end or a line. Nick's love is infinite.
To have been loved by Nick felt secure, wholesome and regarded. It made you feel special. It left you irrevocably changed and therefore, no finality.
Nick inspired those around him to be better. Less judgemental, more easy-going. Even the most serious souls were brought to laughter by his corny jokes, designed to be free of personal insinuation, and all about the healing of laughter. Everything about Nick was neutrality of conflict, and a focus on love. Mere words fail to paint all that was Nick because he was an abstract of the brightest colors. Anyone who came upon him, had their own interpretation of truth well lived.
In 2019, he was diagnosed with a condition that materialized into bile duct cancer which aggressively spread to his liver. Although the illness took a toll on his physical body, Nick's spirit remained resilient. After 3-plus years of multiple surgeries, treatments, anxiety, pain and occasional moments of hope, it came down to the brutal truth that his body could no longer carry on. His mind fought till the very last hours. He was deeply saddened that his dreams of a long life with his beloved family would not be realized and he spent his final hours letting those he loved, how he felt about them. Nick lived by his own moral code - be kind, be honest and be helpful. If any words he said or actions he took didn't meet that criteria, then he left them unsaid and undone.
Nick is survived by his soulmate and loving Wife, Grace Kolokithias, daughters Nichelle Kolokithias and Laila Kolokithias, Loving Father, Nicholas Kolokithias, Step-Mother Yahaira Kolokithias of Queens, NY, oldest Sister Tisa Myers and brother-in-law Peter Myers, brothers Rico Kolokithias, Christopher Kern, Austin Kolokithias, Casey Kolokithias, Thomas Kolokithias, and younger sisters Hasli Ortiz and Scarlett Kolokithias. The Bellino Family, George, Danielle, Bianca and Briella whom he loved like blood and who were his people as he was theirs.
