Mary Ann F. (Gabel) Smetana,68, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Saint Peter's University Hospital on Thursday March 7, 2019. Mary Ann was a lifelong resident of Sayreville, 1968 Sayreville High School graduate & lifetime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church where she was an Eucharistic Minister & sang in the choir for many years. With her business background, she was an executive secretary for NL Industries, assistant manager at Card-O-Rama & loyal employee for the last 19 years at Custom Financial Strategies.
In September of 1972, Mary Ann wed Kenneth J. Smetana and were married just shy of 45 years.
In her free time, Mary Ann enjoyed quality time with her family, bowling, crafting, shopping, playing Yahtzee & Jumble puzzles.
Mary Ann will always be remembered as a ray of sunshine, for her smile, warm heart, open ear, loving wife/mother/Nana, cherished sister, devoted Aunt, Godmother & cousin.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth E. Smetana, wife Nancy, daughter Julie Ann Renode, husband Robert J III, daughter Stephanie Parse, husband Michael, 8 grandchildren: Robert J IV, Kayla, Anastasia, Olivia, Elizabeth, Savannah, Aaliyah & Mariah, sister Diane Clayton, husband Robert, sister in law Jean Guylas, Godchildren, cousins, nephews & nieces
Mary Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband, Kenneth J. Smetana, her parents Edward & Julia Gabel, Godparents Leon "Smokey" Moken & Charlotte Rzuczek father & mother in law Joseph & Anna Smetana, brother in laws Joseph Guylas,Joseph Smetana & sister in law Rose Smetana.
Friends are invited to pay their respects at the Kurzawa Funeral Home, South Amboy on Monday from 4 to 8 pm and from 9 am Tuesday before a 10 mass at Sacred Heart Church, South Amboy.
