Maria Teresa (Pali) Moriello, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a long illness, at the
age of 77, on Friday, May 5, 2023, at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, NJ,
Maria Teresa Pali was born on March 13, 1946, to Nicola and Gaetana (Cerullo) Pali, in Vallata, Italy. At
the age of 20 she reconnected with (Egidio) Biagio Moriello, who grew up in her town and whom she
knew most of her young life. They fell in love and were married on March 4, 1967.
Later that year, they immigrated to the United States of America where they lived with her husband’s
family in Elizabeth, NJ. They spent the first few years of their marriage here, starting their new life in this
new country and began a family of their own. In 1976, Maria and Biagio moved their family to a lovely
home that Biagio himself had constructed, in Linden, NJ. Here is where they continued to raise their
family and spent the remaining years of their lives together.
While growing up in Italy, Maria learned the skills of becoming a wonderful wife/mother and
homemaker. She specifically learned how to stitch and sew. In the early months of her marriage, Maria,
was employed in a coat factory where she used and honed her skills as a seamstress. After the birth of
her first child, she became a full time, stay at home mother, but continued working as a seamstress for a
dry cleaner for many years.
Maria’s main joy in life was her family and cooking for them. She enjoyed making wonderful Italian
dishes as well as preparing and jarring the variety of fruits and vegetables that her husband’s many
gardens produced. In her golden years, Maria still enjoyed cooking, but her greatest treasures were her
grandchildren.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Egidio Biagio Moriello, her parents, Nicola and
Gaetana (Cerullo) Pali and her brother, Rocco Pali all of Vallata, Italy.
Maria is survived by her loving children: Carmine (Rosemarie) Moriello, Nicola (Danielle) Moriello, Grace
(Moriello) Rivera (Jeorge Rivera, Jr.) and Anna (Moriello) Murphy. She was a treasured grandmother of
eleven grandchildren: Dominic, Nicolas, and Cristian Moriello; Tara and Jenna Moriello; Justin and Nina
Rivera; and Holly, Thomas, Brian Jr., and Kelly Murphy. She is also survived by her brother Gerardo Pali
and her sister Concetta Pali and their families.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Kurzawa
Funeral Home, 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879. A 10 am funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023, at St Helena Roman Catholic Church, in Edison NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a monetary donation be made in Maria’s memory to the
Padre Pio Foundation of America.
