Maria Del Carmen Peña

Maria del Carmen Peña (nee Rodriguez) of Sayreville, NJ passed away peacefully on January 18, 2022. She was 82 years old.
Born in Cuba on September 21, 1939, she had lived in Sayreville, N.J., for the past 49 years. In Cuba she was an Elementary School Teacher before emigrating to the United States and settling in New Jersey. After raising her 4 children, Maria worked in customer service in the banking industry for 30 years at National State Bank, Woodbridge and finally retiring from Santander Bank, Parlin. Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and cousin who devoted all of her time to caring for her family & grandchildren. She also enjoyed shopping, gardening and traveling.
She is predeceased by her mother Clara Fletcher, step father John Fletcher, father Marcos Rodriguez, as well as many dear aunts, uncles and cousins.
Maria is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years Jose Peña, her loving children and their spouses Joseph, and his wife Leslie Peña, Marilyn Kobstad, and her husband Ted, Lizette Anthony, and her husband Glenn, Christine Kilcomons, and her husband Bill, cherished grandmother to Emily Peña and Joey Peña, Conner Anthony, Griffin Anthony, Ryan Anthony, Kayla Kilcomons and Emma Kilcomons. Also by her half brother Marcos Rodriguez, sister-in-law Martha Peña Hernandez, nieces, nephews and many loving cousins and friends that will miss her dearly.
Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Kurzawa Funeral Home, 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879. A 9:30 am funeral mass will be offered on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Saint Mary’s Church, South Amboy, followed by a graveside service at Holy Cross Cemetery, East Brunswick, NJ. Please note that masks must be worn at all times while in the funeral home and during services. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Maria’s name to St. Jude’s Research Hospital. 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
