Joseph P. Hickey

Joseph “Joe” Hickey, age 61, of South Amboy, New Jersey, formerly of Ballybunion, Co. Kerry, Ireland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025. Joe was a beloved father, dedicated partner, cherished brother, and dear friend. He faced his final months with extraordinary strength, resilience, and dignity, never losing his sense of humor or his ability to lift the spirits of those around him.

Joe was a proud member of Carpenters Local 157 since 1991. He believed in working efficiently and getting the job done right, earning him respect from coworkers and friends alike. Joe genuinely cherished his work and the brothers and sisters he worked alongside.

Outside of his career, he was affectionately known as “Irish Joe” and was loved for his warm heart, quick wit, well-timed jokes, great stories, and unmistakable brogue. His accent was instantly recognizable and warmly remembered by all who knew him. He was a die-hard New York Jets fan, who enjoyed good company, shared laughter, and a well-earned Budweiser. He had a natural way of bringing people together and leaving a lasting impression wherever he went.

Throughout his courageous battle with leukemia, Joe was extremely grateful for the exceptional doctors and nurses who cared for him, as well as the many family members, friends and coworkers who supported him with prayers, love, and encouragement.

Joe was predeceased by his beloved parents, Patrick and Olga Hickey. He is deeply missed by his dearly loved daughter Caitlyn, whom he called his "pride and joy”; his devoted partner, Patricia; sister, Susan; niece, Stephanie; nephew, Morgan; and his extended family, including Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, and many friends both in the United States and abroad.

A Celebration of Life honoring Joe will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Ancient Order of Hibernians in South Amboy, New Jersey. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather and celebrate Joe’s life, legacy, and many memories. Please RSVP using the link below if you are able to attend and share a special story of Joe.

Joe’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him, but his strength, kindness, and humor will live on in the stories and memories shared by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
