John “Jack” Mackiel, 72 a life-long resident of South Amboy, NJ passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

Jack was born on February 7, 1953 the son of Claire and Edward “Lefty” Mackiel and had graduated from Hoffman High School in 1971. At the age of 18 he became a member of Protection Fire Company, and has been active since then. He retired after 20 years as an operating engineer at Port Newark, NJ. After retirement Jack took great joy in taking long walks around his beloved South Amboy, seeing old friends and making new ones. Jack will be missed by his family and friends.

Jack was predeceased by his parents and his oldest brother, Edward Mackiel.

He is survived by his older brother Robert Mackiel and his wife Karen, also his nephews Edward and Thomas Mackiel.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025 from 9am-11am at the Kurzawa Funeral Home, 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879, with a prayer service at 11am followed by a burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin, NJ.
