John M. Durnye, 92, on Monday, January 8, 2018 entered in eternal rest. He was born the son of the late John and Veronica in Perth Amboy. John lived most of his life in South Amboy and was a proud Veteran who fought bravely during WWII earning a Purple Heart.
John was the devoted husband of the late Mary (2005). He is survived by his loving children Veronica (Ronnie) Johnson-Rezem(Louis E.), Jean M. and Michael J. (Sarah), cherished grandfather to Eric DeProssimo(Jennifer), Helen Ronco(Randy) and Russell; great grandfather to Jason, Jaxson DeProssimo, Skyler and Pryce. John was predeceased his brothers Jake, Al, Gabe, Lou, George and a grandson Marc DeProssimo.
John and his late father-in-law William Fisler started the South Amboy Arena in 1958. As the years went on the family business grew to 7 additional roller skating rinks. The family adopted the trade name Rollermagic Roller Rinks. John’s legacy will live on and the enjoyment that was given over the decades from a true family run business. He will be greatly missed by all his patrons and friends.
