Joan M. Cleaver (Nee: Whyckoff) 88 of South Amboy, entered into eternal rest Sunday, September 8, 2024.
Joan was born in Perth Amboy the daughter of the late Walter and Helen. She was a life-long resident of South Amboy. Joan was dedicated to raising her kids and making a house, a home. That home was filled with lasting memories that will never be forgotten, especially those nights of playing pinochle with her sister and brother-in-law. She enjoyed spending time crocheting, baking some of the best cakes and pies anyone ever had and going to the beach spending time with her family. Joan was especially known for her special order birthday dinners, dancing the night away at weddings and making a special occasion a memorable one. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and seeing her mother everyday.
She is predeceased by her parents, her first husband Theodore Rachwal, Sr., her second husband Byron Cleaver, son Theodore Rachwal, Jr., sisters Mabel, Isabelle, Evelyn, Katherine, Lorraine, Dorothy and Caroline, brothers Sonny, Eddie and John.
Joan is survived by her children Joseph Rachwal, Helen Figueroa, Mathew Cleaver, and his wife Angela, Daniel Cleaver, and his wife Sheila, Robert Cleaver, Robin Cleaver and Denise Grande. Cherished grandmother to Holly-Anne, Tara, Gina, Mathew, Rebecca, Alyssa, Jessica, Oscar, Patrick and Peter; great grandkids Larissa and Charlie. Dear sisters Helen Naiduck and Jennie Schultz. Many, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 7pm to 9 pm at the Kurzawa Funeral Home 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879. A 10:30am funeral mass will be offered at Saint Mary Star of Sea Church, South Amboy, NJ on Friday morning. A burial will take place at Saint James Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ.
