Helen Ann (Bordeleau) Mandel 93 formerly of Sayreville, NJ passed away peacefully at her home in Roanoke, Virginia on July 20, 2024, surrounded by the love of family.

Helen was born on June 25, 1931 in Newark, NJ where she lived until she married in June of 1953. Helen spent the summers of her youth on Morgan Beach in New Jersey which is where she met her future husband, Edward Mandel, Jr, who also spent his summers at the beach. Honey and Sonny, as they were known back then, would eventually date and marry, and settle in a home just a mile away from the beach where they met in Morgan, NJ, where they lived until June 2023. Helen was a devoted mother to her two children, Susan and Edward III, and could be found volunteering for many organizations in support of them and Ed Jr. - PTO officer, elementary school librarian, Brownie troop leader, Girl Scout troop leader, Cheerleading coach, Ladies Auxiliary member of the Morgan First Aid Squad and Keyport Yacht Club. She could always be found at track meets, swim meets, baseball games, and often helped shuttle her children and the local children to practices and events. As her children grew, Helen dedicated her time to her job as a teacher’s aide to special education children at Eisenhower School and then worked for many years in clerical positions for New Jersey Manufacturer’s Insurance and Eastern Dental in Sayreville. In her spare time, Helen found great joy in the warmth of the sun - whenever possible, you could find her at the beach, the pool, sitting in her backyard, or on her sun porch.

Helen is predeceased by her parents, Anna and John Bordeleau, her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Hand, and her brother John Bordeleau, Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Ed, her son Edward and daughter-in-law Barbara, her daughter Susan Kass and son-in-law Wayde, her grandson, Kevin Mandel, and two granddaughters, Katherine and Christina Kass. She is also survived by her very special goddaughter and niece, Christine Hand Rowe and her husband Jim Rowe, and their two children, Jim and Holly who were like grandchildren to her.
