Gerturde H. Mccarthy

Gertrude H. McCarthy ( Nee: Niemi ) 75 of South Amboy passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024 at home with her family by her side.
Gertrude was born and raised in Jersey City, the daughter of Eino and Hilja Niemi. She graduated from Snyder High School in 1967. In 1973 she married Thomas and they started a new life as parents, devoting their lives to their children. Gertrude was a dedicated mother who was very modest and raised her kids with the respect and love they deserved. She was a simple person who was always available to lend you her time or an ear if need be. But do not be confused, she was a tough hearted soul and sometimes told you how it was. Above all, Gertrude had a huge heart and loved her family. While being a fulltime domestic engineer, AKA MOM, she enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the SA Elks #784 shuffleboard team. She had a few quotes that will be missed, one being “Don’t let me get to three” and “Put a fork in it”. Gertrude’s spirit will live on in her family's hearts.
Predeceased by her parents, siblings Ernie Niemi, Linda Balbian and Jeff Balbian.
Survived by her beloved husband of 50 years Thomas J. McCarthy, loving children Michele Livingston, her husband John, Thomas C. McCarthy, his wife Danielle, Matthew J. McCarthy, his fiancée Jennifer Horvath and Mark McCarthy, his wife Eryka.
Cherished grandmother to Matthew Jr., his fiancée Nicole Boyle, John, Robert, Mason, Casey, Ryan, Emily and Charlie. Adored great grandmother to Lucille and Liliana
Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 1 pm to 4 pm, at the Kurzawa Funeral Home 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879. Cremation will be on Monday and will be private.
