Evangelina M. Di Guilio(Nee: Spencer-Armendariz) 95 of South Amboy entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 15, 2021.
Evangelina was born to Luz M. Spencer and Alberto Marquez Armendariz on July 25, 1926 in Presidio, TX. She was the eldest of 12 brothers and sisters, and a loving daughter who was devoted to helping her mother raise her younger siblings. When Eva finished high school, she had furthered her education and career by going to a vocational school in San Antonio, TX. Upon completing her certifications, she returned to Presidio, TX where she in turn opened her own hair salon. After several years she made the decision to move to El Paso, TX and open up a hair salon with a friend. It was there that she had met her future husband, Leo F. DiGuilio Sr. who was stationed at Fort Bliss in 1955. In November of 1956, Leo was being discharged from the army, it was at that point when he asked Evangelina to marry him. With her parents’ permission and blessing, they were married on November 9th 1956. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Jersey City, NJ, where Leo’s family resided. Eva continued her profession as a hair stylist with her sister-in-law, Helen Gilson.
On August 12, 1957, Eva gave birth to her eldest son, Leo F. DiGulio Jr. Four years later, on February 12, 1961, her second child, Albert G. DiGuilio was born. The following year, on February 22, Eva was blessed with the birth of a beautiful daughter, Sylvia C. DiGuilio. From 1956 through to 1989, Eva lived in Jersey City and continued to be a hair stylist and a Spanish and English tutor for the Hispanic community, while raising her 3 children. On February1, 1988, Eva’s husband Leo F. DiGuilio Sr. retired from the Jersey City fire department. In 1989, the couple had decided to sell their longtime family home in Jersey City and moved to South Amboy, NJ. Here, Eva became an honored member of the community, by becoming a Columbiettes, and devoted her time helping in many charitable events held by The Knights of Columbus. She also devoted much of her time helping in the care of her grandchildren.
Eva is predeceased by her parents Alberto and Luz Armendariz, her siblings Gloria Armendariz, Julietta Rodriquez, Luz Mari Selman, Alberto Armendariz, Jr., Carlos Armendariz, her loving husband Leo F. DiGuilio, Sr., her grandson Lucas DiGuilio, and great granddaughter Jaiden Marie Hiebert.
She is survived by her loving children Leo F. DiGuilio Jr., and his wife Mary, Albert G. DiGuilio, and his wife Maria Markisello and Sylvia C DiGuilio-Hiebert, and her husband Daniel. She was the adored grandmother to Amanda DiGuilio, Marla Hiebert-Caughron, Daniel R. Hiebert Jr., Geena DiGuilio, Megan DiGuilio, Kaitlyn DiGuilio, Ian DiGuilio, Leo F. DiGuilio III, Kali DiGuilio, and Cooper DiGuilio. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren; John Gotta, Rilynn Hiebert, Easton Hiebert, Paige Gotta, and Hudson Hiebert. Eva is survived by her siblings: Olivia Hinojos, Frank Armendariz, Gloria Meyers, Luis Armendariz, Rosa Pelton, and Laura Rohana.
Friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 8 am to 10 am at the Kurzawa Funeral Home, 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08850. A 10:30am funeral mass will be offered at the Sacred Heart Church, South Amboy, NJ. Burial Frost Woods Cemetery, East Brunswick, NJ.
