We sadly announce the passing of Eugene (Gene) Savin, who died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Sunday, August 28, 2022.
Gene was born on May 22, 1936 to immigrant parents, Thomas and Margaret Savin. He was born at Coney Island Hospital and raised in Queens, NY. Gene graduated from John Adams H.S. of So. Ozone Park in 1954, attended Hunter College for 3yrs before joining the United States Army where he served in Fort Hood, TX from 1957- 1959. In 1959, Gene started working at AT&T Bell Laboratories as a Draftsman/Design Engineer on West Street in lower Manhattan where he met the love of his life, Catherine. Gene and Catherine were married in January 1962 and moved to New Jersey where they raised their family. He was a dedicated employee of Bell Labs from 1959-1996 before retiring from the Holmdel, NJ location. He lived an active lifestyle with family and life-long friends, spending much of his recreational time playing racquetball/tennis and infinite visits to New York City. Gene loved the theater, Broadway, concerts, music, and art. Being with family and friends meant the world to him, whether it be at a restaurant, the beach, or walking down at Waterfront Park.
Gene is a loving and devoted husband, father, Poppi, and friend to all.

Survived by his children: Michael Savin and wife Darcy, William Savin, Catherine Kopko and husband Ken, and grandchildren: Michael Savin, Melissa Savin, Elizabeth Kopko, and Kenneth Kopko; dear sister, Tatiana Delin.
Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the Kurzawa Funeral Home 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879 from 3pm to 7pm. A 9:30am funeral mass will be offered on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Saint Mary Church, South Amboy. Internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, South Brunswick.
