Eleanor “Cookie” Egan, 89, (Nee: Santos) of South Amboy, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 17, 1937, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Eleanor was the beloved daughter of Antonio and Elizabeth Santos. She was raised in Perth Amboy and graduated from Perth Amboy High School. Eleanor devoted her life to caring for her family, creating a warm and loving home filled with memories, traditions, and unconditional love.

Eleanor was a devoted wife, a proud mother, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy in life was her family. Gathering everyone around the table, sharing a meal, and spending time together were some of her happiest moments. Above all, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treasured every moment she spent with them.

One of Eleanor’s favorite traditions was spending time on vacation in Wildwood with her family. Year after year, she loved watching her children and grandchildren grow through the years on that same beach, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Those summers in Wildwood held a special place in her heart and became a cherished part of her family’s story.

Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael Egan, as well as her sister, Marie Santos DeAndrea, and her brother, John Santos.

She is survived by her loving sister, Arlene Egan, and her loving sons and their wives: Michael Egan and his wife, Catherine; Thomas Egan and his wife, Patricia; Robert Egan and his wife, Colleen; and Richard Egan and his wife, Denise. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Tracey Egan, Thomas Egan, Beth Egan, Derrick Egan, Rickey Egan, Samantha Egan, Colleen Egan, and Michael Egan, as well as her beloved great-grandchildren, Rachel, Kaitlyn, Henley, Beau and Jacob.

Eleanor will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her generous heart, and the warmth she brought to every family gathering. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched and through the family she loved so deeply.

She will be dearly missed and forever loved.

Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 from 4pm to 7pm and on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 9am to 9:30am at the Kurzawa Funeral Home 338 Main Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879. On Thursday morning a 10am funeral mass will be offered at Sacred Heart Church, South Amboy, NJ, followed by a burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin, NJ.
